Willow Meets Amelia

Amelia Earhart was a legendary aviator, fearless, and inspiring woman. She was born in Atchison, Kansas on July 24, 1897. From her very childhood, Amelia through her activities defied traditional gender roles and went on to creating records.

She made countless records throughout her life, and elevated the place for women in aviation. Amelia became the first solo woman to fly above 14,000 ft in 1922. And in 1932, she crossed Atlantic Oceans becoming the first solo woman aviator to do so.

For her dedication towards aviation and courageous flying acts, the Congress awarded her the Distinguished Flying Cross, a military decoration awarded for “heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in an aerial flight.” Amelia was the first woman recipient of this award.

Amelia and her achievements remain an inspiration to many people across the globe.

Amelia Earhart stood up for equality and women’s place in a male dominated field of aviation. She helped establish the Ninety-Nines (99s), an international organisation for female pilots that supports women in aviation.

To celebrate her life and efforts that she put into for paving a path to inspire generations of female aviators, blOOturtle is organizing an event on 7 November, 2020 featuring Willow Willpower, the main character from the award-winning children’s book, Willow Willpower. The event will be held at the Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum, Atchison, Kansas.

We cordially invite parents, teachers, and all residents living in nearby areas to register for this event and make it successful.
If you haven’t registered for this event, register here.

The first 100 registrants will receive a special edition Willow Meets Amelia pin. All participating children will be able to join the exciting contests and win prizes. They will also meet and interact with women pilots from the 99s.
